‘Thank you so much for a really wonderful, relaxing stay in your beautiful cottage. Thank you for all the attention to detail, including the cream tea which made us feel so welcome. Thank you also for your incredibly hard work in cleaning it so spotlessly – really reassuring during this pandemic. We also really appreciated the big porch and drying rack for all of our wet clothes and muddy boots! A great stay – we don’t want to leave!’

Ben and family, August 2020

John and family, February 2020

‘The owner of Acorn Cottage very generously welcomed us with a pot of homemade raspberry jam and a pot of clotted Devon cream and scones! A lovely cottage in a farm yard surrounded by other converted outbuildings and – shhh QUIET! We shall be returning I am sure. Thank you – we have had a lovely time in this delightful cottage. Very accessible – well done! Delicious jam and cream, wonderful ginormous eggs.’

Margaret and John, November 2019

‘Highly recommend, 5-star accommodation with lots of little extra touches that were thoughtful and fab! Great info pack on arrival with a cup of tea and scone to read it with. Would stay again if I’m down in Devon.’

Carrie, November 2019

‘Lovely comfortable house, very clean and well equipped and in a peaceful location great for exploring Devon and Cornwall. There are some great dog walks a short drive away and we had a lovely meal at the local pub in Belstone. Alison is a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome with a delicious cream tea and other thoughtful touches. She provided lots of information on the house and the local area. We really enjoyed our stay.’

Fiona and family, October 2019

‘My best-ever rental – excellent. It was just what I wanted, provided exactly what was offered – and more. It was very well equipped and with lots of modern utensils. A fabulous welcome and a very helpful owner. I would certainly stay there again if I was in the region and highly recommend it to others.’

Carole, October 2019

‘Really good accommodation for wheelchair users because of the adapted bathroom and kitchen. The ground-floor bed is movable to create enough space for the wheelchair. And the A30 is so near that tours in all directions are no problem. I hope to come again.’

Kristina and group, September 2019

‘Had a great time staying here with my children. Cottage has everything you need to make it a home away from home. Especially loved the quiet rural setting. Well positioned centrally for days out to other parts of Devon and North Cornwall. Ideal base for exploring Dartmoor. Welcome pack was very welcome indeed after a long journey.’

David and family, July 2019

‘Very nice cottage with scones, cream and jam to welcome us. Really good location for visiting lots of beautiful places.’

Rita and family, June 2019

‘We enjoyed our stay very much. Thanks for the cream tea, it was lovely. Also, we were glad to have a lot of equipment in the kitchen, along with the provided herbs, sugar and so on. We had a wonderful time with several walks on the moor and visits to Exeter.’

Andrea and Gregor, October 2018

‘What a lovely welcome! Cream tea – perfect. And the house contained everything we needed and all in good condition. The neighbours were all friendly and stopped for a chat. The house was well positioned for days out to the seaside, to several National Trust properties (the Finch Foundry was my favourite) and, of course, Dartmoor. We’ve had a wonderful week in your lovely cottage.’

Jenny, Jonathan and Phil, September 2018

‘While a bit out of the way, if you have a car this is a wonderful base for exploring the nearby villages and Dartmoor. The drive to Exeter is under 45 minutes. My family and I had an amazing time staying in this beautiful home, and would love to come again.’

Saskia and family, September 2018

‘Lovely stay. Very comfortable and great home-made jam and scones from Alison.’

Samantha and family, August 2018

‘Complete, calm, well-kept, warm welcome, unproblematic and flexible arrival, complete kitchen and even board games in the living room (had fun with Cluedo and Exeter version of Monopoly). Located ideally for Dartmoor – north coast, south coast and Land’s End about 1 to 1.5h drive (one way). We (family of four) really enjoyed our 10 days – thank you, Alison.’

Martin and family, August 2018

‘We had a very good week in the beautiful Acorn Cottage. Alison is a friendly host. She always took care if we had any questions or if we needed some help. The Cottage was well prepared, tidy and clean for our holiday. We had very comfortable beds and all rooms are lovely furnished. We found many catalogues for excursions and maps for the surrounding. The kitchen is provided for all your needs and Alison also left milk, apple juice, Cornish cream and fresh eggs in the fridge. Furthermore, we had a nice welcome with tea, coffee and fresh Scones, raspberry jam made by Alison. The Cottage is located rural and quiet but Okehampton is near. The weather was very fine for hiking in and around Dartmoor which has beautiful landscapes. It is absolutely worth it to spent time in the lovely Cottage and we hope to come back once more.’

Frank and family, July 2018

‘This is a beautifully presented farm cottage. It has everything provided that you could possibly need (including a cream tea waiting for you on arrival). It has been thoughtfully planned to offer accommodation for someone with mobility issues. I would have no hesitation in recommending the property and hope to make a return visit.’

Gillian, June 2018

‘The Acorn Cottage met our expectations. Alison is a very kind and helpful host. The fresh eggs and cream tea left for us were a lovely touch. The place is clean and well looked after. It is a bit away from civilisation, but that’s exactly what we were after.’

Daniel and family, May 2018

‘Acorn Cottage is undoubtedly one of the best properties I’ve stayed in. The cottage is located on farmland right on the doorstep of the magnificent Dartmoor, and the personal touches such as cream tea on arrival were very much appreciated. A fabulous place to stay.’

Jemma and family, March 2018

‘Location very good, surrounding area also good especially south Devon railway and Buckfastleigh itself well worth a visit. Alison is very helpful and does excellent eggs and jam, would certainly recommend. The barn itself was very well laid out and clean, kitchen had good supply of utensils, bedroom very comfortable. ‘

Ron and Carol, September 2017

‘We stayed at this cottage from Sept 9th- 16th and had the most wonderful time. Upon arrival there was a cream tea waiting for us and a welcome pack for our dog courtesy of Alison. The cottage itself was beautifully clean and spacious. Alison also left us fresh milk, eggs from her own hens and apple juice. She is a truly lovely lady and host and nothing was too much trouble for her, that said, she did not intrude during our stay. She even left printed ideas of things to do and what was going on in the area. The sitting area was comfortable with a large TV and selection of DVDs. The wet room was ideal and the kitchen provided for all your needs. Sadly, the weather was cloudy and wet but it did not stop our fun, we visited Brixham, Torquay, Dawlish, Oakhampton and the famous Widdecombe Fair which we thoroughly enjoyed. The best thing at the end of the day was a lovely comfortable bed, so cosy! The cottage has Wi-Fi but is slower than at home, we couldn’t get a mobile signal. Our Labrador enjoyed herself as well, the cottage is quite rural but some great walks and easy to find. There is a local pub which serves good food and drink if you fancy a break. The only downside was that we did not want to go home and cannot wait until we return next year. Alison is really the perfect host, so very friendly, what more can you ask for, it is worth a stay to experience some great days out or in, absolute perfection and a great time to be had by all.’

Tina, Mark and Tilly, September 2017

‘A very comfortable cottage. On our arrival we found a welcome pack from the owner, milk, eggs, scones, jam and clotted cream amongst other things. A Devon cream tea was enjoyed by all after our long journey. The cottage is located on a farm some distance from any main road, quiet and peaceful. On the edge of Dartmoor with some fantastic scenery and beautiful walks on the doorstep. The cottage is well equipped, all we needed was there. We all enjoyed a wonderful week exploring the Devon and Cornish countryside. Two local hostelries we would recommend, The Tors Inn in Belstone and the Taw River Inn in Sticklepath, both an easy drive or pleasant walk from the cottage. A little further away is the Rugglestone Inn in Widdecombe on the Moor, simply beautiful setting and a great hostelry. Although we do prefer to visit new places, we would not hesitate to return to this cottage.’

Peter and family, August 2017

‘We stayed during July 2017 and found the barn conversion to be very clean and comfortable. On arrival, we enjoyed a Devon cream tea supplied by Alison which was a lovely surprise and well received. The cottage is set in a lovely and peaceful location, but within quick and easy access of the Dartmoor National Park, Okehampton and the A30. The barn has obviously been converted to a high standard and had everything we needed for our week-long stay. The barn should be of interest to anyone with a disability as the downstairs wet-room and kitchen has obviously been designed with this in mind. The local village of Belstone and its pub (The Tors) is also recommended.’

Matt and family, July 2017

‘Very well maintained and peaceful. A lovely place to stay and Alison is very helpful and approachable.’

Gemma and family, July 2017

‘Superb location! Dartmoor on your doorstep. Alison provided some superb walk suggestions which made our holiday! Welcome tray of scones and fresh eggs plus a doggie box of treats for our four-legged companion. Would recommend.’

Claire and family, June 2017

‘We had a wonderful stay. Acorn cottage was a charming place to escape to. Alison pays great attention to detail and was very welcoming! The cottage has 2 bedrooms and a sitting room and a cute kitchen. We were especially delighted with the small details like there was salt and pepper and sugar for us. It is hidden on a farm down a country lane in the middle of luscious Devon (allow some time to find it). So picturesque! Several great pubs within a 5- or 10-minute drive. Beds were comfy. Shower was hot. Cottage was spotless. Farm cat was adorable.’

Karen and family, May 2017

‘A very comfortable and well-equipped property with an exceedingly pleasant owner. In the middle of some beautiful Devon countryside. Highly recommended.’

Douglas and Lynne, March 2017

‘The cottage was really cosy which was a big thing, and perfect for us and our long weekend! Massively appreciated the cream tea on arrival as well. Many thanks!’

Steph and friends, November 2016

‘A lovely little cottage, clean and well arranged with all required facilities.’

Clive, September 2016

‘All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable stay (although we weren’t in the property that much). Comfortable and well equipped, it’s a good choice for the less able and good for those with children. Acorn Cottage is an excellent base for exploring Dartmoor and surrounds and we would certainly use it again.’

Matt and Charlotte, September 2016

‘Lovely comfortable barn conversion set in an idyllic location. Spacious, quirky cottage with plenty of character. Warm welcome from the host and easy, uncomplicated booking process. Situated on the edge of Dartmoor with plenty to see and do locally. All amenities within a short driving distance. Highly recommended.’
