Welcome to Acorn Cottage
The cottage, which is semi-detached, is housed within a granite former farm building, and is part of a complex of properties on what was previously a working farm. The barn, which is clearly visible on the 1842 Tithe map, was probably used to house animals. Converted in 2000, it now welcomes self-catering guests who are looking for a peaceful location for their holiday. The cottage, which sleeps four in two bedrooms, has a quirky charm and has been adapted to be wheelchair-accessible, so suits the needs of disabled guests and those with limited mobility. Children are also welcome and up to two dogs are accepted too (small extra charge payable).
This floor plan shows you the layout of the cottage (sizes are approximate):
There is a designated parking space right outside Acorn Cottage, plus additional shared parking on site. The property is reached by a level concrete path, and access is on the ground floor, via the entrance hall.
Ground Floor:
The master bedroom is a double room, which is surprisingly spacious for a cosy cottage. It is equipped with a TV with integral DVD player, so why not indulge yourselves and watch a film in bed? There is direct access to the parking space via the patio door.
The kitchen is small but very well-equipped, with everything a keen cook could possibly need! There is even a dishwasher – who wants to do the washing-up on holiday?
The spacious family bathroom is configured as a wet-room.
First Floor:
The light and airy lounge has a real sense of space and light, thanks to the feature gable-end window. The TV has an integral DVD player, and a good selection of DVDs are provided. There are also board games and lots of information about things to do in the surrounding area.
Across the landing is the second bedroom, which is a characterful twin-bedded room. The toy box should keep younger guests amused and the blackout blinds ensure a good night’s sleep, ready for an exciting day’s exploring!
The Gardens:
There is a small lawned area, complete with seating, immediately outside Acorn Cottage, along with a pretty flower border.
In addition, from 2021, guests will have exclusive use of The Secret Garden, which lies across the main entrance drive. This is a fully enclosed and very private garden area with seating, flower borders and two productive apple trees.
Accessibility:
The ground floor of Acorn Cottage has been designed to be wheelchair-accessible and the property has been given a National Accessibility Scheme rating of Level . This makes it ideal for disabled guests, or those with limited mobility. On the ground floor, all of the doorways are wider than average and the floor is tiled throughout to facilitate the passage of a wheelchair. The bathroom is configured as a roll-in wet-room with a shower seat and plenty of grab rails. The kitchen has been designed to allow a wheelchair user access to both the hob and sink. There is a designated parking space right next to the cottage, which can be directly accessed via the downstairs bedroom.
